Eqing Fun (tutorial)

The art of equalization of a music track.
So if you are reading this, you want to opotomize your audio track to not sound muddy, or
cluttered. I just want to clear a few things before we begin. Eqing your track will not
change bad sounding note combos. If it sounds band before you start in terms of combos.
It also won't make you out of time track sound better, sorry.
Equalization is all personal prefernce, I personally like having more bass, and trebile,
but about half the mid tone overall. So take this tutorial and alter it to fit your sound
wants.
The best way to eq a song, is of course with a huge mixing board, with a massive eq
section for the overall track, and eqing for seperate tracks. Now, this may not be practicle,
so I will be talking about a standard three part eq for overall and indivdual tracks.
So you got to think of it like a room, with the instruments taking up physical space. So by
this I mean, the bigger the sound, and more it covers in terms of the frequence spectrum,
the more space it will take up in our room.
So drums will take most physical space in real life, but it also covers a ton of frequences. The symbols cover highs, the toms and snare are highs/mids, and of corse the bass drum is your low end. I always start with the drums,  because it takes up the most space. So you have to keep raising and lowering the levels of the high mid and low, of the individual track eq, until you can hear each part of the
insrtument.
Next I like to eq the bass insturments. The reason I like to do this, is the bass and drums
are well your base for the track. If you have a great base, you will have a great track.
Now start that eqing, again alter the individual track until it sounds good, now this is
where we do something different, start eqing your overall track. You again want to eq the
instruments to sound like they are apart. Picture the room: the drums have taken a lot of
space, but try to find room for the bass! This fixes the muddy feeling of tracks. Do this
for your lead tracks, and any vocals you might have.
Using Eqing for effects is fairly easy, simply decide on the sound you want and listen to
the track you want to alter. One popular effect is that "over the phone" effect which can
be achieved by killing the low end, and mid end.
I hope this helps you understand eqing a bit better. If you have any questions feel free
to contact me.

Building Freelancer's Guitar Rig (P1)

Hello, this is my first official Blog entry I apologize for the delay, but things have to be crazy.

So I'm currently on the search for the epic guitar rig for my sound, I'm not asking for confirmation or flame, just opinions.

So we start off with the guts, the power behind it all, the amplifier. The sound I need is heavy distortion, with the option for clean. A lot of people suggest the Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier (Click here!)
but I have always been a sucker for the Marshall distortion...

So I looked through the Marshall range and found one beast of a amp...The Mode Four (Click Here!), the second I turned that sucker on and cranked the gain on the highest gain channel, it just screamed Freelancer. The thing is a beast with 350 watts of power. I hear people screaming: "NO! IT ISN'T A TUBE AMP! DON'T BUY THE SOLID STATE GARBAGE!". To that I have to say, first off it is a Hybrid amp, so that means, yes, there are tubes, but there is also solid state. The amp has crystal clear clean, and a decent crunch channel, but honestly the OD2 (Highest gain) is why I will get this amp for my rig.

Cheers,

Freelancer

What not to Listen to!

Hey guys, Regan here, this is my firsts entry, and I am pretty stoked about it. So today basically I am going to give you guys a list of music not to listen to. Yea I know...a list of music not to listen to, you read correctly! Basically I am putting this list on here because I was asked to write about the worst albums of the week, or something like that...so I just thought for my first entry I should give you guys some music to look out for and not bother wasting your time on.

1) Nickelback - Absolutely all of their music is a waste of time, unless you like slow rock with crap lyrics

2) The Killers - They are slow rock once again, not quite as drab as Nickelback, but still don't bother

3) Papa Roach - This is just crap, it is almost all explicit, and it doesn't really have a great musical feel even

4) Limp Bizkit - The singer may have a cool voice, but this is only backed up my the most basic of instruments

5) Justin Bieber - Someone should give this guy a prize! He finally has started to become a man, cancelling his concerts and not putting out any more music. He is only good if you wish to listen to preteen high squeaky voices:)

Take it easy guys, and be sure to not check out these bands or solo artists!
